The 10th Animal Liberation North Demo in Kiel, Germany saw a break from the conventional single march format and an experiment with multiple simultaneous actions in the city. Below we discuss some of the advantages and limitations of such a model. Feel free to add your thoughts.

Nottingham City Council have decided to end funding for the Council for Equality and Human Rights Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (CEHRNN). Reports in local rag the Evening Post suggest that this decision may have been motivated, at least in part, by the organisation's role in last December's demonstration against the English Defence League (EDL).

After Nick Griffin's BNP meeting in Sutton last weekend was met with protests, he's blamed the labour party for attacking the venue!

The EDL, despite their claims, are a fascist mob. It is the historical duty of "alternative" types to stop them on the streets.

Notts police seem to believe that the English Defence League / Casuals United are a peaceful non-racist grouping, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. Is the because (a) The police are stupid, (b) They don't think it matters (c) The EDL/CU agenda suits them?

Nottingham City Council wasted £30,000 on a highly-critical report into internal problems and personality clashes. Its conclusion? "Put simply, the council is dysfunctional". No wonder they don't want you to read it! This new council-monitoring blog by a Nottingham green activist includes a link to the file-sharing site where the full report can be found, for all to see and share. THAT'S democracy!

Nottingham City Council claim to be 'closing in' on fraudsters and have shelled out on a prime site advertising campaign in the city to tell us so.

Last December government minister Ed Miliband said that 'popular mobilisation' was needed to create the pressure to reduce carbon emissions. He linked it to previous campaigns that had involved direct action.

"When you think about all the big historic movements, from the suffragettes, to anti-apartheid, to sexual equality in the 1960s, all the big political movements had popular mobilisation"


It sounds great doesn't it? And, when climate activists are essentially only asking for what science demands and what the government claims to want too, what could be the problem?

Someone should pass that thought on to other branches of government and state apparatus, as they appear to think differently on the issue.

On March 28th, English Nationalist have called a "National Demo" in Leicester. They hope to use the opportunity express their concerns about the city becoming "the first to have a minority of Indigenous English in the near future." This, they claim "is non other than ethnic clearing." Which is presumably similar to ethnic cleansing.

While the organisers are insistent that the "demo is not connected to any political party," it is prominently promoted on the websites of both the England First Party, a BNP-splinter group, and the openly-fascist National Front. Something which you might hope the organisers would be concerned about.
