September 2008 marks 10 years since the arrest and incarceration of the Cuban
5, five men wrongly convicted in the US after peacefully defending Cuba from
terrorist attacks planned in the United States.

Come and show your solidarity for the Five and spread the word. Bring placards, stalls, whistles, drums and banners for a lively
demonstration, including street theatre and speeches to inform the British

8-8-88 Burma Protests and Bike for Burma Report

A Burmese monk unveils the glass memorial
Friday 8th August marked the 20th Anniversary of the 8-8-88 Burma democracy uprising in which at least 3,000 unarmed Burmese protesters were murdered by the Burmese junta. In London the Burmese unveiled a glass memorial at the peace park near the Imperial War museum, held a protest for political prisoners at the Burmese Embassy and in the evening had an exhibition on Burmese political prisoners at the School of Oriental and African Studies. The following day the new generation of Burmese students and exiled activists held a Bike for Burma event around London to remember 8-8-88 and ask people not to forget Burma. Read more >>

REMEMBER EACH ELEVENTH . . . . progress, despite desperate "minderbinder" ploys!

The "remember each eleventh" campaign is based around the idea that the eleventh of the eleventh "poppy day" isnt enough, these days, as we seem not to "remember" so much that our repetitions of past tragedies is almost past farcical . . . . hence, 12 times a year, a week of action around the eleventh around the widest possible formal/informal coalition, on the lines of the passionate reasoning that put the circular "wreath" on a lasting memorial in whitehall ( a "traffic hazard", "sticking up like a sore thumb" as the blocking efforts of the bureacrats of the time had it ) - to represent those of all spiritual traditions, politics, etc - but also those without.

DSEi Downing Street legal observer cleared of obstruction on appeal

A legal observer convicted in February of obstructing a police officer during a stop and search outside Downing Street won his appeal at Southwark Crown Court in London on Friday, 8 August following a one-and-a-half-day hearing. The incident occurred during a peaceful vigil and blockade of Downing Street last September in memory of victims of the arms trade.
