Asking Wallace Art Collection not to accept Total Blood Money

The www.totaloutofburma.org group again visited the Wallace Art Collection at Hertford House, Manchester Square, London on April 9th. They have been considering accepting money from the French oil company, Total that is the largest western sponsor of the brutal military junta in Burma and whose pipeline was built with slave labour. Total seeks to whitewash its dirty image by associating with the Arts.

Last Wednesday April 3 elements of the Polícia Federal arrested activist Cipriana Jurado leader of the Non-Governmental Organization, Centro de Investigacion y Solidaridad Obrera (CISO) and the comrade Carlos Chavez of the organization Agrodinámica Nacional. At around 3 in the afternoon agents of the Federal police aboard a car without registration plates stopped by force comrade Cipriana and forced her into the unit, alleging that there was an arrest warrant against her which was never shown during the arrest, nor when she was transferred to the Rehabilitation Centre for Adults (CERESO). The Israeli Army has decided to close down the Islamic Charitable Society in
Hebron, Palestine. They claim that the society is linked to Hamas and channels
money to terrorism but this is not true. The army has stolen a large amount of
food and equipment from the Society including computers and 2 school buses.

Joining in with the events of  http://www.fossilfoolsday.org the 5 protesters demonstrated against the French oil company's fossil foolishness causing climate change and pollution as well as the usual protest against Total's support of the brutal Burma junta. Asking Sarkozy to kick Total Out of Burma at Arsenal Summit

At the Anglo-French summit held at Arsenal Emirates Football Stadium on Thursday 27th April, protesters asked French President Sarkozy to kick French Total Oil out of Burma. President Sarkozy has previously told Total not to make further investment in Burma, but Total currently funds the brutal military regime with over 500 million dollars a year. In December it upgraded its offshore gas platform whilst asking its corrupt military partners for a maritime exclusion zone around the platform.

Four activists held a demonstration outside the Wallace Collection art gallery at Hertford House, Manchester Square, London on Wednesday 19th March. The Art Gallery is currently considering a sponsorship deal with Total so the activists were asking them not to accept sponsorship from the largest western sponsor of the brutal Burma junta. A boycott is not yet called for as it is hoped the gallery will do the right thing and not become associated by Total with oppression in Burma.
