From JAPAN- The Japanese cabinet approved the government's right to engage in collective self-defense, a major shift to the nation's constitution. Hong Kong police arrested more than 500 pro-democracy protestors. Toshiba is likely to win a bid to build a nuclear power plant in Bulgaria. An Insight on the situation in Iraq.
From CUBA- According to the New York Times, the US State Department abandoned a probe into Blackwater actions in Iraq after a company official threatened to kill the government investigator. The killing of 3 Israeli teens settlers has led to much violence in the West Bank, including revenge attacks on Palestinian teens.
From SPAIN- There is evidence that Iran is assisting the Islamist rebellion in Iraq. The European Court of Human rights upheld the French ban on full-face veils in public. Ukrainian forces launched a massive attack on separatists in the east after President Poroshenko refused to renew the ceasefire.
From RUSSIA- An interview with law professor Francis Boyle on why Poroshenko refused to follow European and Russian advice to renew the ceasefire in Ukraine. Boyle suggests that there is a plot to escalate the fighting to bring in a confrontation between Russia and NATO.
From GERMANY- Details of the assault on separatists in eastern Ukraine, and European response. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu called for the creation of an independent Kurdistan and the need to keep troops in the West Bank. In Ghana crisis talks are being held over the rapid spread of the Ebola virus in western Africa. Germany became the number one target of US spying following the 911 attack. Google has begun fulfilling European citizen requests for personal information removal.
