The jailing of so called ‘Australian Anarchist’ is a strange case that has a lot on unanswered questions. Just how did a Sydney private educated son of a millionaire end up in Bulgaria stabbing to death the son of a leading Bulgarian Socialist MP ? Also how did being associated with the Anarchist movement Anftifa in Bulgaria whilst at the same time a member of the British Army but not being a British citizen. Even Jock’s millionaire father admitted on an ABC TV special on the matter that Jock’s story seemed strange and didn’t add up.
See http://www.abc.net.au/austory/content/2011/s3242781.htm
After Jock graduates High School 2006 in Sydney and leaves to backpack around Europe. Jock then settles into live in rural Bulgaria and becomes associated with Bulgarian Anarchists including participating in Antifa Actions.
According to the ABC Jock left Bulgaria for England where he joined the British Army. Despite the British Army having requirements that all it soldiers be British Citizens Jock gained an exemption despite having a history of Anarchist activity. Just how did an Australian living as a backpacker come to be recruited to the British Army and how did he come to have leave from the Army with two other British Army officers after only one month in the Army. These questions remain unanswered.
Jock even admitted to bringing out his British Army colleague knife at a house he owned in Bulgaria. But the question remains what was Jock doing in Bulgaria with two other British Army officers one of which had access to a house which contained combat knifes and pepper spray. What happened to Jock’s fellow British Army Officer during a brawl with members of the Bulgarian Socialist Party youth wing? Were Jock and his British Army mates out for a drink or were they out on an armed Antifa action looking trouble and picked the wrong group for a fight. Were they monitoring the son of a leading Socialist official on assignment from the British Army?
The British Army has refused to comment on the matter citing that they do not comment of operational activities. British based anarchist groups have refused to support Jock citing his membership of the British Army and no known links to British anarchist groups beyond an unknown group called Anarchist Solidarity.
The Anarchist Federation in the UK attempted to distance themselves from both Anarchist Solidarity and Jock;
As it stands, having communicated with the Federation of Anarchists in Bulgaria (FAB) and with other knowledgeable parties in Bulgaria and the Balkans more widely, we won’t be issuing any statement. We know more about this situation than we are at liberty to put in writing. We do not wish what we write here to cause harm to any party which is, unfortunately, a real possibility if we do not choose our words carefully.
What the Anarchist Federation was saying is they had contacted Anarchist in Bulgaria who had no know links to Anarchists in either the UK or Bulgaria. So why would Anarchists in Melbourne take up the cause calling for his freedom claiming he was Anarchist? The Anarchist Federation in the UK claim there was something bigger going on and didn’t want to be associated. Was he an anarchist for infiltrated the ranks of the British Army or was he British Army member who tried to infiltrate the Bulgarian Anarchist scene and got caught out in street brawl with a Socialist Youth Groups?
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that jock had decorated his jail d=cell in nationalist symbols
Cell 17 is one of the biggest on the second floor of the foreigners' section of the notoriously rundown and overcrowded Sofia Central Prison. It is home for 26-year-old Australian Jock Palfreeman. Hanging from the ceiling are the Iraqi and the Iranian flags, and the Eureka flag... On other walls, Palfreeman has put up posters of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and Vasil Levski, who was executed in 1873 for his part in the struggle to free Bulgaria from 500 years of Ottoman rule.

The questions that remain are what was the role of the other British Army Officers in the brawl and is Jock actually covering up for a senior officer. The ABC program seems to hint that Jock is covering up a murder by a fellow British Army officer who abandoned Jock on the night leaving him to take the blame. Was Jock on a secret mission that might with to monitor the son of a leading Socialist MP. Why was Jock armed and out at that time of the night? Whilst we may never know what actually happened that night there is plenty of publicly available information that any self respecting Anarchist would follow the example of the British Anarchist Federation and not support the case of the young Australian who was a member of the British Army who stabbed to death the son of a leading Bulgarian Socialist MP.
