Rami Hussein (see bio below) will speak about the ongoing crisis in Syria and the humanitarian and political situation in the country. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Bio: Rami is an Anglo-Syrian brought up in Damascus. He studied medicine at Damascus University and left Syria in 1990 to continue his medical education in the UK, and to live - in his words - in a "relatively freer country". He is an orthopaedic surgeon practicing in the UK, and is married with 3 children, the oldest of whom is nine. Rami says he has been opposed to corruption since well before the Syrian revolution started, and has been a supporter of non-violent protests from the beginning of the revolution. He is a member of the Syrian National Coordination Body, which he says is against violence, sectarianism and foreign military intervention in Syria, and calls for a peaceful transition of power to democratic civil government. He is also a member of the Syrian Medical Committee.
Planning Meeting (7.45-9.30pm):
After the talk and discussion, we will continue to make plans for our upcoming Peace Pilgrimage for Syria, to take place in central London on Tuesday 10th December, International Human Rights Day.
