EDO Director at secretive UK future weapons conference

* | 30.06.2013 21:40 | Smash EDO | Anti-militarism | Terror War | South Coast

In April, John Eaton EDO MBM (Exelis) Director of Design, gave a presentation at a secretive weapons research conference on 'disruptive technologies' organised by the Royal Aeronautical Society.

John Eaton has previously attended confrences in the US to present research being carried out at EDO MBM in Brighton into miniature weapons systems used on unmanned drones.

The latest UK conference was restricted to UK nationals with classified security status.

A ONE DAY CLASSIFIED CONFERENCE

DISRUPTIVE
TECHNOLOGIES AND THE
WEAPONS DOMAIN 2030
ONWARDS

In every industry occasionally disruptive
technologies will be introduced which cause
a complete paradigm shift, for example, the
impact of the introduction of digital mobile
telephones on the communications industry.

The aim of this classified one day (UK Eyes
Only) conference is to consider potential
disruptive technologies, at both system and
sub-system level for the weapons industry,
which may be reasonably fielded from 2030
onwards.

The potential impact of these
technologies on military business should also
be considered. For example there may be
circumstances where the introduction of a
different type of capability would change the
way in which a military (or political) effect is
delivered.

As such, a disruptive technology is
one which could have influence across one or
multiple Defence Lines of Development, not
simply the equipment.
