Three Kurdish activists were found dead with gunshot wounds inside the Kurdish Institute of Paris in the heart of the French capital early Thursday .
The bodies of Sakine Cansiz - a co-founder of the militant nationalist PKK - and of two others were found in a Kurdish information centre.
Kurdish activists said the killings were carried out by forces in the Turkish state itself who wanted to derail the talks.
Ihsan Kaçar, head of the Istanbul Human Rights Association, said the murders could have been an attempt to undermine the positive reaction in Turkey to the nascent peace process. "I was very hopeful about the talks with Öcalan, but after reading about the killings in Paris, these hopes have been shattered," he said.
The PKK took up arms in 1984, and demands greater autonomy for Turkey's Kurds, who are thought to comprise up to 20% of the population.
