Last week there was a showing of the film "Confessions of an Undercover Cop" about/with/by Mark Kennedy in Berlin. Although many in the audience were disgusted by the self-aggrandising portrayal Kennedy gives of himself in the film, it's showing was a good beginning to the evening, which was meant to focus on open discussion within the Berlin activist community.

There was a short introduction to the film about how the Kennedy operation worked, and two short presentations after the film, one of which gave a focus on the workings of the "European Cooperation Group on Undercover Activities" (ECG), more info about which can be found in a recent Statewatch report by Matthias Monroy:

Short interview clips of activists speaking about their experiences of being spied on by Kennedy and German undercover cop Simon Bromma were then shown, including an interview with radical academic Christian Scholl, author of "Two Sides of a Barricade...". Some of these clips can be found here:

The discussion following the presentation went on until after 23:00, with lots of people staying on for chats with a drink afterwards. This event was seen by many as a very positive way to deal with the effects of being spied upon, and it was remarked by some in attendance that such an open way to deal with such a sensitive topic was very healthy for our scene in Berlin.

In Germany, there has also been at least one more public showing of Confessions of an Undercover Cop in the activist scene, and activists in Heidelberg have been very active publicly since the exposure of undercover cop Simon Bromma there.
