A socialist workers party day of action descended into a fiasco when members of the English Defence League appeared. 15 members of socialist workers party were illegally flyposting and handing leaflets out to members of the muslim community, when around 7 thugs from EDL appeared. they began to chant EDL at us. Initially we began to shout verbal abuse at them and we chanted the anti-fascist slogan "nazi scum off our streets" we were expecting members of the muslim community to support us, however most of them made a very quick exit from the scene, also the problem was that a considerable percentage of them cannot read or write English, so they had no idea what was actually happening, so we are now looking at printing anti-EDL leaflets in Urdu and Arabic.

There was some pushing and shoving and by now we realised that we were way out of our depth, one SWP member dropped all his leaflets and ran off, and then things went down hill from there, the EDL then began to rip the fly posters off the wall, they accused us of being traitors against white working class people, I actually pointed out that I was not a traitor to the working class, as I am actually from a middle class background, i was also accused of being a marxist and a supporter of communism, to which I proudly admitted being a supporter of Lenin and the mass murderer Stalin.
By now the EDL were being more aggressive, so we decided to run for it, we scarpered as quickly as possible leaving all our leaflets behind. in general we made a grave error by under-estimating the EDL, they are now using intimidation tactics that we have used on the far right for years, clearly swp and other groups need to inform the police before activities so they can protect us from the fascists.
