‘Gustav Landauer & Early German Anarchism’
A Book talk by Gabriel Kuhn – 7pm, 4th May.
Author of ‘Sober Living For The Revolution’ & ‘Soccer vs. The State’
"Landauer is the most important agitator of the radical and revolutionary movement in
the entire country." This is how Gustav Landauer is described in a German police file
from 1893. Twenty-six years later, Landauer would die at the hands of reactionary
soldiers who overthrew the Bavarian Council Republic, a three-week attempt to realise libertarian socialism amidst the turmoil of post-World War I Germany.
‘"Workers Of The World, Embrace!" Homophobia In The French Extreme Left’
A Book talk by David Berry - 7pm, 11th May.
Author of ‘The History of the French Anarchist Movement 1917-1945’
As the French revolutionary Daniel Guérin (1904-1988) once remarked, the European
labour movement’s record with regard to homosexuality has not, on the whole, been
positive. ... Guérin is a rare example of a marxist revolutionary and a bisexual who dared to address these problems rigorously and very publicly at a time when to do so was to invite opprobrium from all quarters — including most of his supposed comrades.
