A date has been set for a first hearing for the Parliamentary Inquiry into the controversial UKCMRI bioresearch lab proposed for central London, for MPs to hear evidence on Wednesday 9th February. Some of the written evidence has now been published. More information below.....
A date has now been set for MPs to hear evidence for the Science and Technology Parliamentary Inquiry into the UKCMRI bioresearch lab plan, starting at 9.15am on Wednesday, February 9th, 2011. Three members of St Pancras and Somers Town Planning Action will speak, from 10.15am. It is in Portcullis House, Thatcher Room and is open for public and press to attend. A new article in The London Evening Standard has reported on the potential danger.
BACKGROUND: The government has offered £220 million of public money towards this proposal to build an enormous laboratory complex alongside St Pancras International Station, planned to handle "Biosafety Level 3" extremely dangerous pathogens in 79,000 square metres of building, eight storeys above ground and four storeys below ground, on land behind the British Library, at a time of brutal cuts. It has been approved at a Camden Council Committee meeting and Boris Johnson has recently approved the plans. Link here to more information on Indymedia London website.
