(called by Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! All welcome)
But Communications House is one of Britain's network of Immigration Reporting Centres, where asylum seekers and other immigrants have to sign on monthly, weekly, sometimes even daily, and from where they can be snatched at any moment and taken to detention in order to be deported.
When the ConDem coalition government took power in May 2010 it inherited a massive immigration policing machinery constructed over the 13 years by the Labour government. Labour had brought in a complex series of punitive laws and built up an infrastructure that includes 12 immigration detention centres, 25 reporting centres, five coastal patrol boats and the capacity to effect mass deportations on specially chartered aeroplanes. Despite some promises about ending the detention of children, the ConDems show no sign of doing away with this brutal system.
Communications House is itself a prison, with cells. Officially. The Chief Inspector of Prisons remit covers 'Short Term Holding Facilities' of which Communications House is one.
So join us to expose the nasty interior of this place for the world to see. Join the demo. Bring friends, banners, noise, music, leaflets, banners. For further information phone 020 7837 1688
