PeterPannier | 19.11.2010 15:49 | Public sector cuts | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements
Meet at The Park, 10am to leave at 10.30am
supported by Trades Council - CWU, GMB, UNISON, FBU, Aspect, USDAW, Unite - and others...
If anyone fancies a stop of at the Glocuester Vodafone, I'm sure there'll be willing marchers...
(and I agree, this needs to be about more than marching... but you gotta start somewhere)
If you're local, try to get to the demo yourself and encourage other groups & people to get along. Print out the leaflet if you can and photocopy it and distribute it as much as possible. Make placards, bring banners, whistles to the demo.
Speakers:
Billy Hayes - CWU general secretary
Trevor Hall – Unite the Union
Tanya Palmer – Unison
John McInally - PCS vice president
and others
There is an alternative to the cuts!
Every year:
• £25 billion is lost to tax avoidance by very wealthy
individuals and companies
• Total Tax Gap (avoided/evaded) £120 billion
• £2.8 billion spent by Government on private consultants
• £3 billion could be raised by taxing big financial
transactions
The last Government spent billions bailing out banks and big
business instead of:
• regulating the city
• taking banking, insurance & mortgage industries into
public ownership for the benefit of all
The disabled, the poor, the elderly and the young will bear the
brunt of the cuts.
• Student fees to TREBLE
• A million JOBS lost in the private and public sectors
• Wage freezes
• Pay cuts
The ConDems claim these cuts are needed to tackle the debt
but this is an excuse for their ideological attack on the welfare
state, the NHS, education, the public sector and public
resources like the Forest of Dean.
• NO TO CUTS
• PROTECT AND IMPROVE PUBLIC SERVICES
• KEEP BUSINESS INTERESTS OUT OF THE NHS
• KEEP THE ROYAL MAIL PUBLIC
• FIGHT PLANS TO PRIVATISE FORESTRY COMMISSION
