Repression

Since the start of second Intifada in September 2010, Israel has murdered more than 6,000 Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, including 1,315 children. 13,130 Palestinian homes have been demolished. There are 6,408 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails. Israel’s murderous onslaught on Gaza in 2008-2009 left over 1,400 dead and the entire infrastructure of the region destroyed. The Apartheid Wall, begun in 2002, is now over 60% completed, despite being condemned by the International Court of Justice. The illegal Israeli settlement programme in occupied Palestinian land continues. The so-called peace talks are a farce. Israel commits war crimes with impunity. Imperialism wants to crush the Palestinian resistance and promote a pliant pro-imperialist leadership – and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas has proved willing to play that role – but Israel’s recent actions show that US imperialism will not rein in the Zionist monster it has created even during the talks. What future then for Palestine?


Resistance
As Fatah has become compromised by collaboration with Israeli occupation, so Hamas has been prepared to express the interests of the poor and become the leading force in the resistance. As left, secular forces such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) have failed to challenge Fatah’s drive to collaboration, so Hamas has filled the gap and led opposition to Israeli occupation and repression. What now for the future of the resistance movement?


Solidarity
Despite the consistent support of British governments for Israel no matter what atrocities Israel carries out, from early on in the Intifada, large and militant protests took place in Britain in support of the Palestinian people, involving tens of thousands of young working class Muslims. FRFI supporters have organised pickets of Marks & Spencer up and down the country in protest against British corporate support for Zionism. It is more necessary than ever before to build an uncompromising, active solidarity movement calling for the complete isolation of the racist Zionist state of Israel. How can you get involved?
