At 9:30am on the 25th August 60 workers from the Viva Global factory in
India, which is a major supplier oif M&S, were brutally attacked as they
made their way into work. 16 women workers were severely beaten and a
union leader, Anwar Asari, was kidnapped by thugs who were waiting for
them as they approached the factory. Mr Ansari was later found by Indian
police after being dumped by his kidnappers at 10:45am Indian time in a
street near his home. He has been the victim of a serious beating and has
been warned that should he return to the factory he will be killed. Mr
Ansari intendes to meet with his colleagues at the picket line as soon as
he is wel enough to leave hospital.The hunger strike will continue until
then.



On Saturday 28th August, at an undisclosed time during the day, the DAta
Miners and Travailleurs Psychique will respond by removing shoppers at
random from one or both of the Marks and Spencers sites in Cambridge, UK.
The shoppers will not be harmed and will be returned to the shop floor
after being informed of the situation at the Viva Global factory in India.
The aim of this action is therefore not retaliation in any form, but to
create a state of psychic confusion in the minds of the Capitalists who
run M&S as well as inform and educate consumers.


WE DEMAND:

= the kidnappers of Mr Anari are found and brought to justice
= all violence and intimidation against union members is stopped immediately
= workers locked out from the factory are reinstated as per the agreement
with the Labour Department.


M&S MUST FORCE THEIR SUPPLIERS TO IMMEDIATELY REINSTATE ALL CONTRACT
WORKERS TO THEIR PREVIOUS POSITIONS


ALL DEMANDS OF THE GARMENTS AND ALLIED WORKERS UNION MUST BE MET FORTHWITH
