Legalise Cannabis is back!
04.07.2010 22:22
Glasgow's annual Legalise Cannabis march will be taking place later this month, on Saturday 24 July.
Only months ago, the government proved once again that drugs policy in the UK is based on media lies rather than scientific evidence and harm reduction.
The tabloids lied and lied again about the dangers of mephedrone, just so they could scare people and sell more papers. Going against all scientific advice, and even their own advisers, the government then gave into this tabloid hysteria and banned the drug, just pushing it into the waiting arms of criminal gangs.
This follows their equally ridiculous decision to reclassify cannabis as a Class B drug in 2009, meaning possession of the drug can now get up to five years in jail!
It’s time we had a drug policy that was based on EVIDENCE, not government lies and media moral panic. By legalising these substances, we could take them out the hands of drug dealers, and end the criminalising of young people for taking drugs which are arguably less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.
END THE 'WAR ON DRUGS' NOW! We'll be marching to:
- Legalise cannabis
- Scrap the mephedrone ban - regulate and control drugs, don't ban them!
- Make clean pharmaceutical heroin available on prescription for addicts - ending the cycle of crime and prostitution that many addicts find themselves caught in.
- Stop criminalising drugs users, and treat drugs as a social and health issue - not a criminal one, with harm reduction at the fore.
- Listen to scientists and doctors, not the Daily Mail or The Sun.
If you want to show your opposition to hypocritical drug laws, there is only one place to be...
Assemble at University Avenue at 12.30pm on Saturday 24th July, to march to Kelvingrove Park for a party against prohibition, featuring live music, DJs, speakers and more!
