The News Cast
Seventeen Palestinian civilians were injured by Israeli air raids targeting Beit Hannon in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning. Local sources reported that Israeli jets targeted residential areas near the border with Israel and Palestinian farm lands.
Doctors at the Beit Hannon hospital announced that the injuries range from moderate to light. The ambulance service of the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza was put on high alert in case of further Israeli attacks.
On Wednesday afternoon three Palestinian farmers were injured by Israeli gunfire while working on their lands near the northern the Gazan border with Israel.
Witnesses said that the famers were harvesting crops near the town of Biet Lahyia when troops opened fire at them without any warning.
The three injured men were moved to a hospital nearby after sustaining moderate wounds from gunfire, doctors reported. Biet Lahyia residents say they often come under army fire as soon as they try to reach their land near the Israeli border.
In other news, Israeli troops detained on 12 Palestinian civilians Wednesday during morning raids in the west bank. Local sources reported military operations and home raids in the cities of Ramallah, in the central West Bank, Nablus in the north and Hebron in the south.
The Israeli army radio station said that all 12 men were in what on what the military refers to as its wanted list. Israeli army radio added that the men were taken to military detention camps for questioning. Last week Israel’s military conducted at least 8 incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Troops detained 15 Palestinian civilians, including one child.
