vegan cake skill-share and free food

On Thursday 29th a marathon baking session took place at the Sumac Centre, where participants learnt how to cook a range of different cakes, including treacle tart (with home-made pastry), vanilla cupcakes, chocolate muffins and two types of lemon drizzle cake – with everyone collaborating at the end to make a giant black forest gateaux for Pat's birthday! Everyone involved, both kids and adults, put a lot of effort into some creative cake decoration and had a lot of fun doing so.
The following day the skill-share food, plus some more cake kindly donated by Veggies, was given out in Nottingham market square, to a very enthusiastic reaction – with lots of people signing up to our email list to get the recipes and information about further events.
As part of the ongoing campaign, every month members of animal rights give out food (that is often donated by local businesses or prepared by us at the Sumac), along with recipes and information about veganism. The giveaways always provide a good means of engaging with members of the public (free cake always gets a positive reaction!) and discussing everything from environmental issues, to the exploitation of both humans and animals that is central to agribusiness.
