The failure of politicians to come to an agreement at Copenhagen has meant that the struggle against climate change takes on a new urgency. Here in the UK, the huge demonstration before Christmas shows that millions of people want to see serious action on climate change.
Our campaign for “One Million Climate Jobs” is going from strength to strength.
We have sold thousands of copies of our pamphlet and there is a real sense amongst campaigners far wider than the established trade union movement that this is an important campaign.
This launch meeting for a Million Green Jobs Campaign Against Climate takes place against this backdrop. We will be bringing together trade unionists and environmental campaigners to discuss how best we can build a movement that wins both climate and social justice.
Come and discuss with climate activists who went to copenhgen and workers taking strike action how to win the fight for green jobs and climate justice. Hear from contributers to the “Million Climate Jobs” pamphlet about how action now could reduce emissions and create jobs. Discuss how we should organise in the coming months to save the planet.
ONE MILLION CLIMATE JOBS NOW!
The pamphlet, ‘One Million Climate Jobs NOW!’ published by the Campaign against Climate Change details how a million climate jobs can be created in a year and features contributions from leading trade unionists and green campaigners. For more information and to order your copies see here: http://www.campaigncc.org/greenjobs
This is not a policy report intended to be read by a few and gather dust. It is the first step in a national campaign to make the government employ a million unemployed workers to save the climate. It contains the arguments workers need for building that campaign. It will take mass action to make the government act. But first we have to convince people.
This interim report from environmentalists, academics, trade unionists and activists shows how it would be perfectly possible to create a million jobs this year that would reduce Britain's carbon emmissions and cut unemployment.
3RD CAMPAIGN AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE TRADE UNION CONFERENCE
Following the failure of the Copenhagen Conference, the need for a campaign for climate justice has never been clearer. In particular, the role of the Trade Union's in fighting for green jobs, green investment and social justice must be expanded.
The Third Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union conference takes place on Saturday 13 March, in central London. This conference will bring hundreds of Trade Unionists together to debate the best way forward. It will be an excellent opportunity to discuss the "Million Climate Jobs" campaign and how other Trade Unionists have been organising.
Please make sure that your union branch / region has supported the conference and is sending delegates. More information here: http://cacctu.wordpress.com/
