This is not sought as something we are required to do: Brighton and Hove is a diverse city where views are shared and voiced publicly - we not only want to preserve this but also work with you to allow others, who might otherwise anticipate disorder and fear for their safety, to protest.
I ask that a suitable representative who has influence over the planning of the demonstration makes contact with us. I feel the need to confirm that this is not with the intention of making them culpable for the whole event, it is to allow dialogue. We have nominated a local officer who is not involved in public order policing, to facilitate discussions with your representative with the intention of seeking joint agreements and to build trust. Anything, in terms of our tactics,is open to discussion but as you would imagine, we could not agree to anything that was unlawful or was a significant risk to public safety. Her details are set out below and it would be useful if you could take this opportunity to move on from some of the past experiences.
Sergeant Melanie Locke, Brighton Police Station, John Street, Brighton
Mobile No. 07768 796810
It would be useful to hear from you.
