Cambridge Remember Gaza Vigil

Dr Douglas Griffith | 11.01.2010 16:47 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Terror War | Cambridge

Cambridge Stop the War Coalition and Palestinian Solidarity
Campaign to hold vigil to oppose the continuing suffering of the Palestinian people.

Details in brief
Date: Saturday 16th January
Time: Vigil to start 12.00 noon
Location: Guildhall, Market Square, Cambridge.

Cambridge Stop the War Coalition (CSTW) activists, Palestinian Solidarity
Campaign (PSC) members and other Cambridge residents will gather outside
the Cambridge Guildhall on Saturday 16th January at 12.00 noon to
demonstrate their opposition to the continued suffering of the Palestinian
people, and to demand an end to the illegal blockade of Gaza, consistent
with the demands of the institutions of international law.

Daphne Babouris, a Cambridge PSC member, explained, "We are answering the
call of hundreds of bereaved Palestinian families who, during their own
1,400 candle-lit vigil in Gaza, have asked the international community not
to forget them, and to bring those responsible for war crimes to justice so
that their family members did not die in vain".

People from Cambridge also took part in the Viva Palestina Convoy, which
arrived in Gaza on the 6th January bringing much needed aid to the people
of this troubled land. One Cambridge couple raised enough money to take an
ambulance and medical supplies.

The continued blockade of Gaza means that desperately needed supplies of
food and medicine cannot get through, and no rebuilding can take place.
Many families are reduced to living in tents next to the rubble of their
homes. The Cambridge community organises activities to raise awareness and
funds for the people of Palestine. The Cambridge vigil is part of a
national campaign called by Palestine Solidarity Campaign, British Muslim
Initiative, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Stop the War Coalition and
supported by: Amos Trust, Communication Workers Union, Fire Brigades Union,
Friends of Al Aqsa, Friends of Lebanon, Greater London UNISON, The Green
Party, ICAHD UK, IJAN - the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network,
Jewish Socialists' Group, Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East,
Palestinian Return Centre, The Peace Cycle, Public and Commercial Services
Union, Thompsons Solicitors, Young Muslim Organisation UK, and War on Want.
