Jobbik fascists meeting in Kentish Town, North London

Britain understand and support the national values and the programme of
Jobbik", two men by the names of Zoltan Fuzessy and Tamas Feher
(organisers from the far right Hungarian party Jobbik) today attempted to
inject an area with decades worth of antifascist history with far right
propaganda.
The event was a reportedly a founding meeting for the British chapter of
Jobbik; an organisation which is already noted for its close ties to Nick
Griffin and his merry group of ethnic/queer/openmindedness - hating
boneheads. It took place in the Gloucester Arms, a pub just around the
corner from Kentish Town tube station; an area home to many different
ethnic groups vulnerable to any rise in racist activity.
The two main groups to converge on the pub in protest today were made up
of activists from the local Unite Against Fascism group and autonomous
anti-fascists, mostly from the newly founded Camden Anarchist Group. The
two anti-fascist groups arrived just before the beginning of the Jobbik
meeting at 1pm yesterday, and set up just a little way down from the pub.
This was due to the vast amount of suspected Jobbik activists (and
possible British fascists) waiting outside the pub; estimates from
antifascists place the number of the boneheads at around a minimum of 25 -
30. When the boneheads of Jobbik began their meeting inside the pub, the
anti-fascists moved to right outside the pub, where there were
opportunities to confront the increasingly deceptive pub owners (who just
that morning claimed they had cancelled the meeting, then later claimed
they didn’t know what it was about; even though it took up the entire
pub), and respond to questions from a journalist from the local paper The
Camden New Journal.
Unfortunately, as time passed, it became clear that the fascists had
visible lookouts positioned outside the pub, and outnumbered the anti –
fascist activists to quite a desperate extent, leaving little opportunity
for any disruption to their founding meeting/fundraiser for the now banned
Jobbik paramilitary front, to take place. The anti – fascist activists
none the less took the opportunity to explain to horrified local residents
that openly racist and homophobic thugs, with connections to attacks
against Roma Gypsy settlements in Hungary, had arrived in their own
neighbourhood.
It is still yet to be seen whether the new Jobbik society will remain as a
foe in the area, or whether after yesterday’s show of public outrage
(including angry phone calls, possible newspaper articles and letters to
the council) they will be moved on. As I write this piece, I find little
reason to suspect that even if they cease to meet in the Gloucester Arms
pub, they will disappear from the area all together. In fact, it is likely
that anti – fascists will have to prepare to a greater extent to see off
the threat next time it rears its ugly head; which may happen in the not
to distant future. So, for the sake of keeping our local communities
fascist – free, I urge all who live in and near to the Camden area to stay
vigilant and keep attention to reports about the actions of the Jobbik
society, and to, of course, come down and show that you will not tolerate
this group, next time they meet.
