This camel race was just part of an initiative organised by campaigners trying to raise awareness of the 34 year struggle for self-determination in Western Sahara. This week marks the 18th Anniversary of the ceasefire between the Polisario Front independence movement and the occupying Moroccan army and next month is the 34th anniversary of the ruling by the International Court of Justice which stated that Western Sahara was entitled to self-determination.
Campaigners also gave out free glasses of sweet Saharawi tea to passers-by and signed them up the the Free Western Sahara Network. They were also joined by singer Aziza Brahim who was performing that evening in the Queen Elizabeth Hall and by veteran Western Sahara campaigner, Jeremy Corbyn MP.

Vigils will be held around the country on 16th October to mark the anniversary of the ICJ ruling.
