The program is a grass-roots youth drug education and prevention program to educate children as young as 6 on the dangers of drugs, and to challenge them to remain drug-free. The children demonstrate their commitment by being "sworn in" as Drug-Free Marshals, pledging to remain drug-free and to encourage their peers to do the same.
The Drug-Free Marshals program was initiated by the Church of Scientology in 1993 and is now supported by many other groups interested in doing something effective to combat the drug problem. Since the launch of the program over 3.2 million people all over the world have taken the Drug Free Marshals pledge to live a drug-free life and lead others to do the same.

One of the many organizations using this program is the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a group dedicated to eliminating drug abuse and achieving a drug-free world through education. The Foundation distributes the Truth About Drugs booklets, which give youth the information they need to stand up to peer pressure and make the decision for themselves to be drug-free.
