URGENT : STOP THE DEPORTATION OF LAUREINE TCHAUPO & HER CHILDREN
EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION OUTSIDE GOVERNMENT OFFICES,GALLOWGATE, Newcastle upon Tyne (OPP ST JAMES PARK METRO STATION)
Monday 15th June 2009
10AM – 12PM
Laureine Tchuapo’s door was kicked down at 7am by the immigration police on Friday 12th June, she and her two children were snatched and taken against their wishes to Yarlswood Detention Centre. They are due to be forcibly removed from the UK on Monday 15th June at 15pm.
Laureine is Cameroonian she has been in Britain since 2006. She has two children Daphne,3 and Ryland,1. Her youngest was born here and Daphne has lived most of her life in the UK. Laureine came to the UK to escape from the repeated rape and abuse she suffered at the hands of a relative who was a police officer in Cameroon. She was also being forcibly coerced into prostitution. As a result of this and the stress of the threat of deportation Laureine has suffered from severe depression and anxiety.
Cameroon is a high risk area for children due to Malaria. 90% under 5’s deaths are malaria related and every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. Despite the immigration guidelines that state a child under 11kg must receive a 2 week programme of anti-malarial treatment before they are deported to a high risk country, the immigration authorities are insisting on giving Ryland a 24 hr malarial treatment thus putting his life at risk.
Laureine and her children’s physical and emotional health and safety are being put at risk by being deported. Laureine’s children have known the UK as their home all their lives and she is a valued member of the West End community. We need to stand together and say NO! to her deportation. We need to let the government and the authorities know that we will not be silent when our friends and members of our community are brutally snatched and their lives are put at risk.
Please make every effort to come to the demo even for a small amount of time, TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!
