Show Down Guantánamo! monthly demo - 1 May,US Embassy
London Guantánamo Campaign | 29.04.2009 12:10 | Guantánamo | Terror War
outside the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, London W1A 1AE (nearest tube: Bond Street/Marble Arch)
Shut Down Guantánamo! monthly demonstration outside the US Embassy. Despite the release of Bush era torture memos earlier this month and communication to the effect that all CIA secret prisons have been closed down, President Obama is no closer to releasing the remaining 240 detainees at Guantánamo Bay and has failed to respond to mounting allegations of ongoing abuse during his term at Guantánamo Bay, including claims of beatings, being pepper sprayed and deprivation of basic items. Several dozen detainees are also still on hunger strike. Earlier this month, Obama’s administration also challenged a court ruling calling for habeas corpus rights for detainees at Bagram, so that they should not know why they are being detained.
Take just ONE hour out of your long weekend as we call for freedom and justice for the Guantánamo detainees.
Demo held on the first Friday of every month at 6-7pm outside the US Embassy - monthly since August 2008 and weekly since February 2007
