Second attempt to remove Eric Tcheujoue

John O | 29.04.2009 10:56 | Migration | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | Birmingham | World

Eric Tcheujoue, a national of Cameroon, currently detained in Colnbrook IRC is due to be forcibly removed to Cameroon on Friday 1st May 2009 on 'Ethnic Charter flight' PVT002 at 01:00am. A previous attempt to remove Eric on Sunday 29th March was aborted when Eric refused to fly.

Eric arrived in the UK on 6th February 2002. By then he was age 16 years and sought asylum on same day/date. His asylum claim was refused on 25th February 2003 but he was granted 2 years Exceptional Leave to Remain (ELR) until 1st April 2004.

On the 25th March 2004 he applied for extension of Leave to Remain (LR) in the UK. Unfortunately the variation of leave to remain was refused by notice on the 21 June 2004. The AIT refused his appeal promulgated on the 22nd October 2004 on the basis that no credible fear of return was evident at the time of the hearing.

The political situation in the country Cameroon is still unstable. The government's human rights record remains poor, and continues to commit human rights abuses. Any Cameroonian earmarked on the secret list established by the Cameroon secret police (Brigade Mixte Mobile (BMM) ) and the CENER (Cameroon's administrative police) as critic or behind any organisation political or non political, manifestations against the country present regime, that person runs a high risk of mistreatment upon his/her return to Cameroon. (Cameroon Police Top World Corruption Chart)

Eric Tcheujoue is still seeking political asylum in the UK as he had suffered hardship as a minor during his escape from Cameroon and during his asylum application process in the UK. Eric witnessed his father been brutally murdered due to his political activities with the Social Democratic Front (SDF). He was left with no choice than to leave the country Cameroon on false documentation.

Since being in the UK, Eric has tried to re-build his life and completed English and Engineering studies at Canterbury College. He has once been a trained member of the UK Military of the 3rd Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment. Since he became an adult (18), Eric worked and supported himself without recourse to public funds. Eric has no family member(s) left in his country of origin Cameroon.

Eric Tcheujoue a dedicated SDF - UK militant, has attended several SDF meetings and rallies which he played the role of animator. During SDF demo in front of the Cameroon High Commission Holland Park, demonstrators like Eric where filmed by member of the Cameroon government. The Paul Biya regime has the feeling that Eric among other youths on the run are very sympathetic to the opposition and as such dangerous to the government.

Recent reports from Amnesty International, Cameroon 'Impunity Underpins Persistent Abuse', and 'USA: Human Rights Report: Cameroon 2008' have all proven that Cameroon's Human Rights records are still very poor.

The political situation in Cameroon has not changed significantly. Eric could be in danger of imprisonment and torture if he is deported to Cameroon. As a teenager Eric has shown great respect to the entire UK community. He has also given much time and energy to the community through working, supporting himself and contributing to the economy of this great country; He is a tax payer. He has settled in the UK, where he has lived since February 2002 and he is part of the community here.
