ReelNews will be showing a film of the visteon autoparts factory dispute when they come up on Thursday 30th April.
They have asked that people get the word out to car workers and rank and file UNITE members. They'll hopefully have a visteon worker coming up with them and hope to start organising some practical solidarity.
"just to let you know that we'll be showing a film of the visteon autoparts factory dispute when we come up. If you don't know already, it's turned into a major dispute now, 600 ex-Ford workers in 3 plants (Belfast, Basildon and Enfield, near us) sacked with only 6 minutes notice, and the now becoming commonplace dirty trick of going into receivership so that they don't have to pay redundancy or pension payments,so they're all now in danger of losing their homes as well as their jobs. Most of them have worked there for 15 - 40 years. UNITE have been a disgrace, basically putting all their energies into convincing the Enfield workers to give up their occupation and start a 24 hour a day picket instead - once they got them out of the factory they haven't been seen since. talks fell though yesterday with a derisory offer of 90 days pay for each worker - when i left the picket line today they were barricading the doors to the plant to stop them getting the expensive machinery out, which they desperately want to get at to sell...
so if you could get the word out to car workers and rank and file UNITE members somehow that would be good, we'll hopefully have a visteon worker coming up with us so we can maybe start organising some practical solidarity for them."
