Israel holds Palestinian prisoners within the 1967 borders in:
• 21 prisons
• 5 detention centres
• 4 interrogation centres
• at least 1 secret interrogation facility
Israel holds 350 Palestinian children in prison
12-year olds have been sentenced in Israeli military courts
Between September 2000 and August 2008, 6,700 Palestinian children were detained in Israeli prisons and treated in the same manner as adults
According to Israeli Human Rights Group B’tselem, up to 85% of Palestinian detainees are tortured by
• sleep deprivation
• tying to chairs in painful positions
• beating, slapping, kicking,
• threats, verbal abuse and humiliation,
• bending the body in extremely painful positions,
• tightening handcuffs,
• stepping on worn manacles,
• application of pressure to different parts of the body,
• forcing the detainee to squat in a painful position,
• choking, spitting and pulling hair out
Ill treatment of Palestinian prisoners in solitary confinement includes:
• sleep deprivation,
• exposure to extreme heat and cold,
• continuous exposure to artificial light,
• confinement in inhuman conditions
