The ashes of Ranbir Singh, who breathed his last on February 1 in Rohtak, were brought to Yamunanagar in a helicopter by his grandson and Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda. The urn containing the ashes were immersed at barrage by Deepender Hooda accompanied by other family members, including Inder Singh, Kulbir Singh and Lekhpal, at 2.30 pm.
After performing all rituals, Deepender said his grandfather had contributed a lot in the construction of Bhakra Dam and Hathni Kund Barrage and all this would never be forgotten. Even in his last days, he had asked us to place his photographs with former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Bhakra Dam during its construction. Therefore, to pay respects to my grandfather’s emotions and feeling, the family had decided to immerse his ashes at Bhakra Dam and Hathni Kund barrage.
NANGAL: The ashes of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda were immersed in Gobind Sagar Reservoir of Bhakra Dam by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here on Wednesday. Five members from the Hooda family performed the last rites of Ranbir Singh. Ranbir Singh is the second national leader after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, whose ashes have been immersed in the Gobind Sagar Reservoir of Bhakra Dam.
The Chief Minister said it was his father’s last wish that his ashes be immersed in the waters of Bhakra so that it reaches every field that was sown using this water. During the establishment of Bhakra-Nangal project, Ranbir Singh was the Power And Irrigation Minister of joint Punjab.
He said a national memorial would be raised at the place where his last rites were performed. Before the arrival of the Haryana Chief Minister and his family members, the spot was cordoned off in the name of sprucing up security for the Chief Minister. Bilaspur SP Kuldeep Sharma and DSP Vinod Kumar not only snatched and confiscated cameras of mediapersons, but also misbehaved with them.
Media adviser to Hooda Sunder Pal and the SP had a verbal duel over the issue, which was sorted out after an intervention of other officials.
