Students Still in Occupation on Seventh Day

"The idea of University is one of the core principles of liberalism- it's about grasping knowledge and creating a 'world view.' The fact this university would think of investing in Arms companies that effectively cause destruction, is just mad. It’s unthinkable," said another student who supports the occupation. And most students agree. Many who come to ask about the occupation are outraged at the prospect that their tuition fees are helping these Arms companies. But a minority of students are angry at the 'strategy' employed. One student even wrote to the Principle, complaining that the occupation was "distasteful" and that the "unconventional method of protest [was] criminal action." He even went so far to call them terrorists and criminals. However, most students feel that the room is a friendly and welcoming environment and their daily meetings attract more than a hundred students at times with speakers like Michael Rose, author of Myths of Zionism and CND activist, Bruce Kent.
QM Occupation has been supported by Noam Chomsky- one of the most prominent academics of our time, Chomsky said, "I am very pleased to learn about your courageous and honourable actions, particularly significant because of the crucial British contribution to the savage onslaught on Gaza, second only to the decisive role of the United States -- a disgrace for all of us. I hope you have the greatest success in arousing public opinion and bringing these monstrous crimes to an end." They have also had academics like Avi Shlaim, Jacqueline Rose and Donald Sassoon supporting the Occupation.
A meeting will be held tomorrow at 1 o’clock to discuss the Principle’s response with all students invited. This meeting, similar to ones held daily illustrate the democratic nature of the Occupation. On Sunday, representatives of the Cambridge Occupation went to visit the students, followed by students from Kings Occupation whose success came only last weekend.
