1. One thousand shoes in Albert Square Rally for Gaza - Sun 18th Jan, 2pm
Protesters will lay 1,000 shoes in front of Manchester Town Hall as a mark of
solidarity and remembrance with 1000 Palestinians killed in Gaza. Bring
children's shoes to represent the children and babies killed.
Chris Davies Northwest MEP just back from Gaza will give an eye witness report
at the rally. The MEP from Stockport has just returned from the Rafah crossing,
on the Gaza Egyptian border.
Reporting on his visit to Gaza with a delegation of five MEP's Chris explained
that while he was there the ceasefire was punctuated several times by Israeli
shelling near the UN shelter he was visiting. "The earth shook each time and
the explosions frightened me but many of the children in the shelter seemed to
regard them almost as part of everyday life because they were 600 metres away,"
he said. In the European Parliament the LIb Dem MEP recently accused Israel's
leaders of being 'war criminals'. What they are doing is 'evil, pure evil' he
said in an angry speech.
This view is shared by Labour MP for Gorton, Sir Gerald Kaufman who in the
recent parliamentary debate condemned the Israeli leadership as "mass murderers
and war criminals".
Dr Aziz who helps organise the daily vigils for Gaza held outside the BBC in
Manchester said, 'the time for words have passed, now it is time for action.'
The Rallly will demand Britain expel the Israeli ambassador in London, and
bring back our Ambassador from Tel Aviv. Britain must stop selling arms to
Israel.
We will place the shoes in front of the Town Hall to send a clear message to
political leaders Gordon Brown and David Miliband to act now to stop the
slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza. Israel must be made to stop.

2. Stop the Banks stealing our aid to Palestine - Sat Jan 17th
Lloyds TSB on Market Street (Near Deansgate) 11am - 1pm
St Mary's Gate Manchester, 5 St Mary's Gate, Deansgate
Lloyds TSB has demanded that the Islamic Bank of Britain cease all dealings
with the registered charity Interpal that works in Gaza. By hitting Interpal's
banking facilities, Lloyds TSB aims to support Israel by shutting off the
trickle of aid that Interpal has managed to get into occupied Palestine over
the years of Israel's brutal siege. The Gazans need our help more than ever at
the moment, let's act now to ensure LLoyds don't cut them off.
Remember Lloyds TSB has just been 'bailed out' with millions of taxpayers
money, making it 'our bank'.
Join in this Saturday with the mass disruption of Lloyds' trading. People will
descend on the Market St/Deansgate branch and proceed to open accounts, close
accounts, get money changed etc. in an attempt to close the branch down. Bring
proof of identity - passport, drivers license etc.
