FYI - the Athens Polytechnic is a historical university building in downtown Athens
It has been the centre of resistance in Greece ever since the fall of the dictatorship in 1974.
In November 1973 a tank broke through the main gate killing tens of students occupying
the building who were protesting against the military dictatorship which crumbled within a year
after that massacre. Ever since, the police in Greece ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER
university grounds for the preservation of democracy and free speech. This is one of the
reasons why we have such a militant movement here, because we have those sanctuaries
against state violence.
The ultimate university sanctuary in the whole of Greece, on a symbolic and a practical level,
is the Athens Polytechnic which has been occupied many times in the past and is now
occupied again for the past week because of the latest murder. Every night there have been
big clashes with the police around the Polytechnic and in nearby streets.
The assembly of this occupied space is the most
frequented by the anarchist, anti-authoritarian and autonomous scene in Athens.
All I'm trying to say is that this is a serious call from a "collective institution of resistance"
which is very central here.
People in Greece have been very moved by all the solidarity actions from abroad.
Separately, we probably won't get very far.
This is one effort to hold a coordinated action for EVERYONE oppressed by the police.
HISTORY WE 'RE ON OUR WAY
