The event has been organised by Nottingham Animal Rights, and sponsored by The Vegan Society and Nottingham based Veggies Catering Campaign, 3-times winner of the Best Vegan Caterer award.
'Veggies' are coming up to their 25th year. Back then vegan caterers and businesses were few and far between but now the list of vegan companies in the U.K is endless. Events like The East Midlands Vegan Festival are happening all over the country. In the last few weeks Veggies has supported similar events in Wolverhampton, Lincoln and London's Kensington Town Hall. The response from members of the public is always fantastic.
The festival will include vegan food sampling, cookery demonstrations, talks, cosmetics, toiletries, ready meals, cakes and other vegan delights that most would consider impossible - vegan 'fish' and chips, vegan creme eggs and vegan marshmallows to name but a few!
Beth Hewis, event organiser said of the event, 'the trend of being vegan is growing all the time, many people are turning to the diet for very important reasons, for some it is because of an intolerance to lactose, for others it is environmental reasons and the realisation that producing meat has a massive carbon footprint. For many veganism is about reducing animal suffering and we hope that our event will show people how easy it is to give up the meat and dairy. Vegan products are so readily available now and it isn't just health food shops that are stocking vegan products.'

Thanks to Bartosz Kali for sharing this gallery of photos from the event at http://bartoszkali.co.uk/galleries/.
Huge thanks to everyone from a broad coalition of Nottingham's animal rights, vegan and environmental campaign community who made the event such a huge success.
Join us on Thursday 18th at the Sumac Centre to debrief, to make plans for next year (probably December 12th) and to party into the night!
