This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- A Chinese Academy predicts that the Chinese economy will grow by nine percent next year. Huge protests came to an end in Thailand when a court dissolved the ruling government coalition. The World Bank will assist with funding Chinese farmers to build bio-gas digesters as energy sources. The IAEA has called for increased utilization of a nuclear crop breeding technique called "mutation induction." India denied that it was considering military attacks on Pakistan in response to the massacre in Mumbai. At the UN Climate Conference in Poland, officials warned that while the economic crisis will pass, global warming will be permanent unless action is taken at once.
From NETHERLANDS- Radio Netherlands has eliminated shortwave broadcasts to North America. The decision is based on their surveys that find very few listeners in N America. If you ever listen to RN on shortwave, please let them know- by email to letters@rnw.nl or send them a letter to Radio Netherlands Worldwide, PO Box 222, 1200JG, Hilversum, The Netherlands.
A report on the opening of United Nations Climate talks in Poland on Monday. A Dutch Minister has criticized that way banks are accepting bailouts from governments while remaining unwilling to loan the money to individuals and businesses. Some in the Dutch government are trying to ban the sale of cannabis while others promote complete legalization. More than 100 nations have signed a treaty banning the use of cluster bombs- refusing to be part of the treaty were the US, Russia, and China.
From CUBA- More details on the Cluster bomb treaty, pointing out that the three leading users of the munitions are the US, Israel, and Britain. Israel has kept up the blockade of the Gaza Strip creating further deprivations, and a ship with aid from Libya was kept at sea by the Israeli navy. President-elect Obama's decision to keep Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense has been criticized by the organization Military Families Speak Out.
From RUSSIA- Russia and Venezuela completed their naval military exercises in the Caribbean and plan to get together in the North Sea. The mayors of 30 cities in the Czech Republic have sent letters to President elect Obama requesting that he drop the plans to install missiles and radar equipment in their country and Poland.

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at http://radio.mediageek.net
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

--"The state can't give you freedom, and the state can't take it away. You're born with it, like your eyes, like your ears. Freedom is something you assume, then you wait for someone to try to take it away. The degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free."
