UK teachers ballot for campaign of industrial action

It follows a well observed strike on April 24, which coincided with stoppages of civil servants, FE lecturers and Shelter charity workers.
Many workers had hoped to unite teachers' action with that of low paid teaching assistants, nursery nurses and clerical staff. These workers cannot join the NUT, and those that are members of the union are mostly in UNISON. However, UNISON's leadership called off their dispute before joint action could be a possibility.
