Petiton to Liam Byrne - application/msword 62K
Svetlana and Tatjana
Svetlana's family sought asylum on 14th July 1999 where each member applied individually. Svetlana's brother Zoran was given Indefinite Leave to Remain and has now become a full British Citizen on the same basis that the whole family originally applied.
In 1999 whilst Svetlana's case was still under consideration she married Stevan Radisic who had previously won his case in court but was appealed against by the Home Office. Stevan has since joined Svetlana's application with his own.
On 12th March 2005 Svetlana gave birth to her only child Tatjana Radisic whilst her father Jadranko unfortunately passed away soon after in June 2006.
The family lived in Croatia until summer 1991, where everything changed when fighting broke out between Serbs and Croats. After leading a comfortable life they were forced to leave that summer. The late Jadranko Kris was a very successful and well known Croatian businessman and his Serb wife Dusanka was a very successful shoe designer. They had been married for 20 years when the war started, and were not prepared to take sides so went to Belgrade, Serbia to stay with relatives during the conflict.
When they arrived in Belgrade, Dusanka quickly found a job as a designer at a private company. However, Jadranko suffered a heart attack where he later required an operation. From that time his health had always remained in a very poor state. The family then went through difficult times when those in Serbia started blaming everyone from Croatia for the sanctions imposed on Serbia. Svetlana and Zoran had become despised at Primary School and College respectively.
After trying to build a new life in Serbia, their life was left in turmoil once again in March 1999 when NATO started bombing Serbia & Montenegro. Being terrified, they opted to restart life outside of the turbulent Balkans. They decided to come to the UK where they believed they would be able to live peacefully whilst making a positive contribution to the country.
They have since become an integral part of society and have all found stable employment.
Little Tatjana having been brought up here does not know of any other life. She cheerfully attends Gloucester Kingsholm Primary School each day and at such a young age has picked up both English and Serbian languages fluently.
It must be stressed that they have not a home or anyone to support them in Croatia if they were forced to return, and are absolutely terrified of the possibility.
In their hometown of Gloucester they have received huge support for their cause from friends, neighbours, colleagues and public figures. The gratitude they have for what the UK has done for them is insurmountable.
That is why the Kris Family and their friends are organising a Campaign to keep the family in Gloucester.
We are asking everybody who are willing to support the Campaign to print of the attached petition, gather signatures and return them to the Campaign office.
