Greens in by-election record success
Filed under: Uncategorized — Derek Wall @ 3:57 am
well I am well tired. High points include Mrs Great Britain asking if she can borrow my shoes. So Davis won with 75% and we came second with our best ever vote in by-election.
Shan Oakes proclaimed that we do agree with Davis on opposition to 42 days, we need to go further, we disagree wth Davis on many issues but opposition to 42 days attracted a huge vote.
However we need to articulate radical politics, this cannot be left to the Tories.
‘This is the best ever result for the Green Party, it builds on our third place on Henley, in our strongest parliamentary seat of Brighton Pavilion this puts us on course to elect Caroline Lucas as our first MP.
Shan Oakes has been a superb candidate, radical and energetic…she has got green principles over to new voters and her result puts the party on course to do well in next year’s euro election.
I am proud as Principal Speaker to have supported Shan in her demand for real action on climate change, on social justice to tackle the rising inequality in Britain, for real opposition to attacks on our civil liberties, to bring the troops back from Afghanistan and Iraq. What a fine campaign she fought. Green politics will grow not just in Haltemprice but across Britain due to Shan’s work. We can now start the real debate on civil liberties which goes beyond Davis’ stifled rhetoric‘, said Dr Derek Wall.
