Can the Simultaneous Policy (SP) campaign help to make the world a more peaceful place? It seems that Adopters are looking for it to play this role, with conflict resolution and disarmament featuring in the top ten list of issues.

In the 'Ideas to change the world' supplement to the Spring 2008 It's Simpol ! newsletter, Simpol gives space to two of the policy suggestions that have done well in the last round of voting: Nuclear Disarmament and Defensive Defence.

It contains information on Defensive Defence, a proposal in which governments commit to no aggressive use of armed forces. This has the potential to divert cost savings into tackling climate change. Proposer Barbara Panvel suggests: "without peace there can be no development of a low emission manufacturing and trading systems."

Mark Horler directed people to the CND site for further information on his Nuclear Disarmament proposal. The site promotes the campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Convention and the Policy Committee arranged the article (below) about this from Marion Birch of Medact - the UK member of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. The Convention itself, or an alternative proposal, could be submitted to firm up the policy suggestion.
