All is not lost, up to 50 councils are looking at running post offices& are checking Essex council who are leading the charge backed up by peoples post offices like Carrington which is leading the way in saying we can run them profitably ourselves if necessary, all we need is a small loan float of 18,000. Business plans are being built & another large carrington meet is planned in a month or so.All the MPs from both parties who voted with the government will lose votes & people will continue the fight to reopen our post offices in or out of central government control!

The government's majority was cut to 20 as the bid was temporarily stumped to prevent the closure of 2,500 sub-post offices. When the post office closures were announced in 2006, ministers said the government had invested £2bn in the network since 1997 and would commit an extra £1.7bn until 2011. Maybe there are afew million fewer customers than 2 years ago, but this is due to government cutbacks,RM incompetence & many pensioners dying of cold unable to pay bills etc!

Alan Simpson helped lead the charge for Nottinghamshire against the cuts, if he leaves parliament it would be a shame for the whole country, we do need good people there like Lord Byron & Tony Benn who fight the peoples corner, although he & other good MP's should join the Green Party who are the only decent consistent party against corruption. Green party may not massively change society, but they will give us all a better chance towards surviving attacks on our environment & towards true local&global democracy.

All MPs who pretended to support their Post Office and then did a runner will lose votes. Nottingham City Head labour councillor John Collins gave poor excuses about not allowing a small 18,000loan to keep Carrington PO open. Phil Hopeless the East midlands minister is"unavailable". John Hutton Postal minister & deputy Pat Mcfadden's+ Royal Mail bosses suicidal post office cuts of over 2,000 needed & often profitable post offices is crazy. Is it to please banks greedy for dosh from easily defrauded chip & pin custom & people who can only use or prefer post offices?. Bankers may make afew million in short term profit from this policy whilst pensioners die but they will lose custom in the long run& labour will lose millions of votes.

John Collins head of nottingham city council came to offer what we hope is not lip service to a packed St Johns church hall on Mansfield Rd, Carrington last night to debate hundreds of people at a short notice meeting to reopen the Post office for Carrington, Mappereley& SHerwood Area. Also people from the Lenton post office in the Lenton-Radford - Woolaton area attended.

Nottingham could have the First Peoples Post office in country for Carrington,Mappereley& SHerwood Area. John Collins said the council will see how Essex council takeover of post offices goes.
Post offices are essential for local businesses, pensioners, offering insurance, banking & credit union facilities around the uk!
Carrington & many post offices Royal Mail & government propose to cut are profitable.

Essex councils plan in supporting 18 post offices with 4million pounds, Carrington PO& others are vital& profitable, all we need are 18,000-40,000 loans to reopen. Sherwood post office & many have no disabled access & it would cost 10,000 at least to remove streetlamps & improve access+pavement alone.
Business plans are in progress to save CArrington if council wont step in of course this would lose labour thousands of votes in the area. Vicar Jonathan Mcgiverly chaired the debate with Carrington campaign lead by Becky Anderson,Colin,Sue, John Robinson & many others, donations were given to help eco-renovations to church hall.

Normal Carrington meetings happening first monday every wk 7.15pm at ukranian sitch club mansfield rd,corner of Watcombe rd just past peugout sales garage on way from town.Any ideas& support + decent business people welcome.
Hundreds of meetings are happening across the country with millions of angry voters very concerned.
