Felling of trees by builders in Nantwich, Cheshire.

The riverside walk along the River Weaver is a pretty place and in the summer, the shade of the trees is welcome. This week without any warning, the trees were felled at the request of Brighouse Builders who are building 2 blocks of flats nearby. It is an act of environmental vandalism.
Brighouse Builders, address Unit 6, Clock Tower, Manor Lane, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, tel 01477 536950, are building 2 blocks of flats along side the river walk in Nantwich, Cheshire. As you might imagine these are designed for the wealthy end of the market. No plans for affordable housing here.
In front of where the flats will stand were very many mature trees. All healthy and lovely to look at, on a hot summer's day, they gave good shade for walkers.
This week most of the trees were felled. They spoilt the view for the flats and were not wanted by the builders. A discussion with the representative in the site office confirmed that the builders had approached Crewe and Nantwich Council and requested the felling of these trees. Needless to say, the council obliged and agreed to this. ( There are those who say that the councillors were rewarded for this handsomely.)
