World Day for lab animals,Oxford (April 19th)

Behind the ‘dreaming spires of Oxford’, its university is responsible for the torture and death of countless numbers of animals in cruel and worthless experiments; animals like Felix the monkey, who had the top of his skull sliced off, electrodes implanted into his brain, was chemically brain damaged and then, when he had outlived his usefulness, was killed in July last year.
With Oxford University’s new animal research laboratory on South Parks Road nearing completion, inside which many, many more animals like Felix will be tortured and killed, SPEAK will be holding a rally and march through the centre of Oxford on April 19th, to mark World Day and to make it clear to the university and its friends in high places that our fight will never end until animal abuse inside its laboratories is a thing of the past.
The opening of the new lab will signal the beginning of the next phase in the campaign against animal cruelty at Oxford University. Whereas in the last four years the demonstrations have been held against the building of the lab, in the future the protests will be held directly against those who are mutilating and brutalising the animals inside the lab. They will be able to see us, they will be able to hear us and they will not be able to hide.
The animals inside the laboratories of Oxford have no voice of their own, they need us to SPEAK out for them. Their lives belong to them, and no-one else. Please join us to fight for their rights and freedom, we are all they have.
