Assemble January the 12th for Freedom of Assembly and Protest!
Campaign for Freedom of Assembly | 09.01.2008 13:00 | SOCPA
The Government is currently running a consultation on ‘Managing Protest around Parliament’, which threatens to further limit protests rather than get rid of the already draconian restrictions. In short they plan to extend the laws on protest in Parliament Square to the whole country. We are tired of the government’s relentless determination to silence us. We must act now
to stop the further erosion of our freedom to assemble, and make it clear that we will not allow our liberties to be consulted away from us. If we don't all of us will always have to get permission to express our opinions...
The consultation ends on 17th January and so at a London meeting on the subject it was decided to hold a day of action on the Saturday 12th January.
Where: meet at the top of Trafalgar Square
When: January 12th 2008, 1pm
The idea: bring an empty banner or placard and pens/paints and we will decide what to write on the day when we meet. The idea is that there will be a whole range of different protests on different topics, all highlighting our right to protest.
