Future for beech in a changing climate - a change of perception?

The native beech is suffering from climate change in the south and removed from woodlands in the north as a “non-native.” It is generally accepted that beech would have made its way north naturally had it not been for fragmentation of the forests.
Perception is Everything
Beech trees in Cumbria are still being felled under the ‘non-native’ banner despite beech being under threat from climate change in the south of England. South Lakeland Friends of the Earth have been campaigning and highlighting concern for the beech and on 3rd Dec Tim Farron MP tabled an Early Day Motion:

BEECH TREES
That this House believes that beech trees are an integral part of the British landscape; is dismayed that beech trees are at risk of disappearing from parts of the British Isles due to a combination of felling in the north and climate change in the south; further believes that beeches should be reclassified in Cumbria as new native in order to prevent their felling as non-native; and wishes to ensure that these trees will be around for the benefit of biodiversity and future generations.
