Bikes Rule
In a nutshell, The Otesha Project UK is a group of passionate, committed young people who are taking sustainable living personally. They know that small actions can have big impacts, either positive or negative, and they'd like their actions to help create a more sustainable world. At the heart of Otesha are grand cycle tours that spread the vibe across the UK.
From May to September 2008, two Otesha teams will meet up, cycle to different places around the UK, share really practical environmental actions, challenge people to do something in their own lives, and then move on to the next place. Each cycle tour is six weeks long. The two Otesha teams will showcase the Otesha play, facilitate interactive workshops on specific issues like climate change or fair trade, and invite people to participate in hands-on sessions on bike repairs, do-it-yourself media and more.
The play is based on the Otesha Canada Morning Choices skit, which follows two characters as they go through their morning routine from 8:00 to 9:00am. The characters explore issues around water, clothing, food, media, fair trade, transportation, energy use and personal banking, making the connection between global issues and their personal lifestyles. Along the way, they present lots of ideas for simple actions that we can take in our everyday lives to contribute to a better world. Throughout these scenes, multi-media is sometimes used to showcase the impacts of each of the choices, using a world map to show affected countries around the world and photos to show the consequences of each action.
