Edinburgh-based animal rights group has launched a campaign to make Edinburgh fur-free and is organising demos against shops selling fur in Edinburgh on the 15th and the 22nd of December.

Edinburgh the Fur-Free City (EFFC), is a new and active animal rights group specifically targeting the fur-trade and have been organising activities including the candlelight vigil outside the Scottish Parliament to mark the 10th International Animal Rights Day.

50 million animals are killed world-wide for fashion, with the bulk of fur coming from China, where animal welfare laws are either non-existent or un-enforced. Undercover investigations and footage show animals being skinned alive while fully conscious for their fur.

Companies however, continue to sell fur or fur-trim, supporting a cruel industry. EFFC aims to work with retail outlets and encourage them to adopt a fur-free policy or stock faux-fur, by raising awareness of the extent of cruelty towards the animals and the damage caused to the environment.

To highlight the issues, EFFC supporters to meet outside the Registry House at 11am on the 15th and 22nd of December and move on to shops selling fur in Edinburgh to stage visual demos.
