The People's Struggle In Nepal And Its International Importance
A Meeting With Comrade Gaurav(C.P. Gajurel) a Senior Leader of the Revolution in Nepal
A senior leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), CPN (M) is coming to speak in London. Comrade Gaurav (C.P. Gajurel) is in charge of the party's International Bureau.
In 2003 Comrade Gaurav, was arrested by the Indian authorities as he attempted to travel from India to Europe. Following an intense international campaign by progressives and democratic forces he was released from prison in India in December 2006.
Since 1996 the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), CPN (M), has been leading a revolution that has been sweeping through Nepal. Ten years of waging revolutionary war, including successful tactics of peace and negotiation with the old state, have showed that the revolutionary leaders in Nepal have mastered the art of making revolution.
In April 2006, the struggle of the Nepali masses against the feudal monarchy and its imperialist backers was raised to a crescendo, and people poured onto the streets of Nepal for a continuous 19 day shutdown of the entire country. King Gyanendra, was eventually forced to concede defeat and reinstate the parliament which he had previously dissolved. The backdrop for these momentous events was, of course, the 10 year revolution under the leadership of the CPN(M). The people's struggle in Nepal is at a critical crossroads, with the ruling classes and imperialists desperately looking for an opportunity to drown the aspirations of the Nepali masses.
The Maoists are demanding that the people's demands for a republic and a properly representative electoral system are met immediately. Without these demands being met, elections cannot be genuinely democratic. Reactionaries are fiercely opposing these demands and a vigorous struggle is inevitable.
Goldsmiths College Centre for Culture Studies, Nepali Samaj and the World People's Resistance Movement (Britain) invite you to participate in our public meetings to talk to comrade Gaurav directly about advances of the revolution in Nepal and the world situation:
