Circus Mondeo, based in Grantham (Lincs) are one of the few remaining animal circuses left in the UK, and tour the country with a mule, 16 dogs, camels, horses, ponies, rabbit, ferrets, zebras and chickens. Members of the public contacted us to report abuse, including an identified animal handler whipping a horse for not 'co-operating' in the ring and a ferret in the pets corner after the show.

The Joint-Owner previously worked for the infamous Great British Circus, who have a reputation for animal abuse.

Ringmaster, Petra Jackson, claims that the 30 year old mule was rescued from an Italian abattoir 26 years ago despite her involvement in the performing arts industry only being in the past 16 years; following her running away from home to join the Hippodrome Circus. In captivity, the average lifespan of a mule is 20 years - so a 30 year old mule must surely be past the age of 'retirement' and would not be fit for performing.

When commenting on the new animal welfare bill, a circus representative said "We're not sure yet how the new animal welfare bill will effect us" - surely if their animal 'welfare' was as up-to-scratch as they advertise it to be they'd have nothing to worry about!
