The postal workers' union, known as the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) has announced two two-day strikes starting next Friday. They cover the 5-6 October, and the 8-9 October, so it's almost continuous from Friday until Tuesday.

Behind Management's (and the Government's) intransigence is Gordon Brown's determination to hold all public sector workers to a 2% pay rise (this is less than the rise in the cost of living!). In particular, they want to beat the CWU so that the whole postal service can be privatised.

Besides the CWU, local government workers in Unison and Civil Servants in the PCS union are also in dispute over what ammounts to a pay cut.
